Pamoja Tunalea Daycare was founded in August 2021 by Penina Mollel and her husband Emmanuel. Penina herself grew up as an orphan in the district Moshono and has therefore first hand experience of how it feels to be dependent on the help of others as a child. Thanks to the support of an English couple, she was able to train as a teacher and now wants to give something back to the children on the streets of Moshono. With the support of her husband Emmanuel, who is a teacher at a state school, she was able to set up the daycare.
In the beginning, she picked up the children herself in the morning, gave them food, taught them and drove them home again in the evening. While the children are being looked after, the families have the opportunity to go to work and earn an income. In Tanzania there are unfortunately no public childcare facilities for children under the age of 6. There are now 37 children aged between 18 months and 5 years in the center and Penina has the support of two teachers, a cook, a driver, a cleaner and a security guard. The whole team works on a voluntary basis and does not receive a regular salary. When dealing with the children, the school motto ‘Love and Care’ is always at the forefront and work is done every day to give each child individual attention.
